69 (thereabouts) shows from 11-25-79 until Vegas 95. I wish I stopped after Brent left as it just wasn't the same vibe anymore. That way I wouldn't have the bad taste in my mouth when I think of the de-evolving scene. But there were some good times in Vegas in the 90s.

Most were West Coast shows, straying as far east as Phoenix. Regretted not getting to Red Rocks in the mif 80s. Highlights included all the Venturas, Irvines, Cal Expo and the good old SF Aud for New Years run of 84. There were some special times, esp 1982 - 1984.

While I know many here are very aware of this information, I, personally, keep no such specific list. I will say definitively, however, that no matter how many times I did see them, it was not enough.

Reading some of the later responses, I can amend this by saying that I was actively seeing shows between 84 and 94, w/ a few before. Highlights would have to include Richmond 85 DP show, the Oxford 88 shows, the Knick 90 shows. Furthest travelled was Boston to Red Rocks the summer of 87. Furthest West show Phoenix 94(also the last seen). Favorite venues Red Rocks and SPAC. Biggest regret: not starting earlier and not seeing them in the Bay area.

I'm a newbie - but at least I got to experience the magic.
Shows seen:

1) 04/03/91 - Omni Atlanta, GA
2) 03/21/93 - Omni Atlanta, GA
3) 03/31/94 - Omni Atlanta, GA
4) 07/29/94 - Buckeye Lake
5) 10/09/94 - US Air Arena
6) 10/10/94 - US Air Arena
7) 10/11/94 - US Air Arena
8) 3/22/95 - Charlotte Coliseum
9) 3/26/95 - Omni Atlanta
10) 3/27/95 - Omni Atlanta
11) 6/24/95 - RFK
12) 6/25/95 - RFK
13) 6/30/95 - 3 Rivers Stadium

Unlucky thirteen! I'm afraid I might be responsible for Garcia's death (sorry everyone). If only I had attended one more show! Wish I could have seen more - but was never much of a tourhead - I enjoyed the music far more than the scene which was often a hassle and a distraction for me.

Seeing as when you began your bus ride, I cannot fault you for your discouragement with the "scene". From year to year I saw a change in the general atmosphere of the shows. As the band became more trendy, their shows began to suffer from all the ailments associated with your everday rock group arena shows. This did seem to peak in the late 80's and the circus regained its footing somewhat in the very early 90's, but only to shortly see Jerry fade. Not to say there was nothing but peace, love and happiness up until the mid 80's, but there was almost a palpable shift in the atmosphere. By 86 the Genie was most definitely out of the bottle. But like you said, it was always ultimately about the music, and when the lights dimmed and Jerry walked out on stage, nothing else mattered.

Hate to borrow from the lyrical giant that is Boston, but they kind of summed it up nicely:
"...But when we got up on stage and got ready to play,
People came alive."

1977-1995 - 101 Shows. Some say too many, some say not enough. All on the east coast, but for two in Indiana, one in Chicago, and my last two in Alabama in 1995. Skipped RFK that summer. Hated that place. Ticket stubs is how I kept track. Most I can't remember... When I found the archive in early '05, the first thing I did was get every show I attended. Now I kinda remember. :)

1979-1994

No idea exactly how many, but can safely say more than 60, no more than 75.

Most on East coast, most (by far) at Nassau Coliseum.

First show: 1/11/79, Nassau (first & only Keith & Donna show I ever saw)
Last show: Highgate, VT., summer of 1994

First song: Sugaree
Last song: US Blues

Highlight shows:
First one;
Alpine Valley 7/17-19/89;
Hampton, VA., 1986--breakout of first Box of Rain in 14 years;
MSG, 1983, breakout of first St. Stephen in 5 years; 3/29/90, Nassau, Branford Marsalis on sax;
5/6/81, Nassau, a show that became a Dicks Picks selection and for good reason;
April, 1987, Irvine Meadows, First and only CA. shows I ever saw.

My 'link' is of course only the ones I have proof of being at. I attended other shows just not sure which ones - I attended shows from Fall 79 through Summer 87 or 89 all in Northeast except for a road trip down to RFK to see Jerry leave the show due to excessive heat - After that it was the Bob & Bobby show, not the most memorable. Read about Jerry going into coma a few days later - sad days indeed.

Along the same lines, No JGB, No Bobby, or Bob Weir, Rob Wasserman, etc. (By the way, the Bob and Rob show was the best solo I'd ever seen Bobby, if not for the most annoying buzz coming from Bobby's acoustic).

Started at the Auditorium Theatre in chicago, in 1977, and ended at Soldier Field ('94, not '95). Many years, many shows in-between, mostly around home. Traveled a couple times, Red Rocks, Louisville, etc.

Total Dead shows, 36. What's that average? 2 shows per year. People who don't know better say I was a major attender. Funny, it just seems amateur to me.

My number is between 25-30. Began with SPAC in 85 and ended with the Knick 6/22/95. Mostly in NY, NJ, PA, MA, CT and mostly between 87-90. Had a notebook once with all the details, but lost track of it many moves ago. Best times were at SPAC. (Random moment-passed my parents in a car on the NYS Thruway on the way to CT from Oswego NY midweek-they threatened to stop paying my tuition next time I spoke to them). Saw Brent's last shows at Tinley Park, Il, which is also as far as I ever traveled for a show.

Caught the reunion in 04 (I think- whenever the last non-obama reunion was) twice, and have seen Phil & Friends & Ratdog a few times each. I've enjoyed seeing theater shows given I hopped on the bus too late for that experience.

Wow...some impressive lists here.

I can only say: 74-82; all West Coast (SF area) and a few in adjoining states.

No more than 30 shows, so a real slacker. One in 67 at GGPark, but I was in the car...little kid.

Billboard Review:

Anal Retentives' latest release is just ooozing sticky funk. This long delayed effort, which has been years in the making, is sure to cover each fan in a blanket of Anal joy. This band has at once been described as true keepers of solid hard rock, but every now and then they explode with some liquid jams that assault the senses.

Sorry, I can't go any farther. Well, I could, but I really shouldn't.

Don't really know how many shows I saw. Was over 100 for sure because I remember partying hard at a show in Denver 93? when I thought it was the hundredth but it's pretty fuzzy and I've forgotten a lot. It's actually cool sometimes when I hear a show and then the memories flash back and I get full recall of the show. Anyway before I ramble too much started seeing shows in 86, peaked in 88-90 and last show was High Gate 95.
Highlights really to many to name but if I try to make a list of some of ones obvious ones the ones that come to mind are:
1st Show Providence Spring 86 possibly
Various shows on Spring Tour 88 I think maybe Worcester might be the one that was really excellent but it's kinda a blur so is most of 87.
Rochester and Oxford 88
Ripple at Landover 88
New Years 88-89
Spring Tour 89 {I liked it all}
Shoreline Summer Solstice 89
JFK 7-7-89 + others
Meadowlands and Philly Fall 89
New Years 89-90
Mardi Gras Feb. 90
Shoreline and Eugene Summer 90
New Years 90-91
Buckeye & RFK Summer 91
All Boston Garden Shows Fall 91
New Years 91-92 Very blurry but remember I went to the shows.
Las Vegas May 92
Denver 93 fall comeback shows
There are a bunch of others like a show at the Knickerbocker arena and Some Nassau shows I haven't fully recovered the memory of but were excellent plus a ton of MSG shows that all run into one great big show in my head now and it's hard to remember exactly when and what was played looking back. Ok well that was an interesting exercise. Kinda puts some order to the mayhem of memories of those precious times.
